At Handshake, we live by the motto “Students First.” Every day, we come to work and spend our time thinking of new ways to support students throughout each stage of the career search. We are a team that is powered by diversity and proud to help all students — regardless of race, zip code, or major — discover opportunities with employers around the world.

In honor of Black History Month, we are excited to spotlight the next-generation of African American leaders embarking on their careers.

Be sure to follow along with our series throughout the month of February. Follow Handshake on Twitter and Instagram.

Meet Khaadim E. Rider & Natasha Taylor!

Khaadim, DSU 2019 & Natasha, DSU 2018

Khaadim E. Rider, Sports Management & Information Systems, 2019

Khaadim’s dream upon graduation in 2019 is to become a Deloitte Business Technology Analyst. Well on his way, Khaadim has already landed a 2018 summer internship at Deloitte (Congrats, Khaadim!).

“Through Handshake, I landed my 2018 summer internship with Deloitte Consulting. Handshake has been extremely helpful in my career search. It matches me with careers that are actually applicable with my major and interests. It has a simple process to fill out applications, and I was getting interviews in no time.”

On campus, Khaadim is the President of the Student Government Association Men’s Council, where he manages a team and organizes leadership development workshops revolving around public speaking. He is also an active member of the Men of Color Alliance, an organization focused on elevating and educating the young men of Delaware State through academics, leadership, mentorship, community service, and career development.

Khaadim has interned and worked at a number of companies and organizations over the last five years, and his experience illustrates an interesting and unique path. If you have a Handshake account, you can login and find Khaadim’s full story on his Handshake profile here.

Ten years from now, Khaadim sees himself being the CEO of a business that he also owns, in hopes of inspiring other motivated black young men like himself to reach high.

The biggest advice I could offer to my peers is to stay persistent. If you keep at it, something will fall right into your lap. But, you have to put the work in first!

Natasha Taylor, Communications, 2018

After she graduates from Delaware State University one year earlier than expected (Summer 2018) with her Bachelor’s in Mass Communications (BA), Natasha is excited to find the the right company not only to work with, but to grow with. Through a number of internships, Natasha has gained a wide array of communications experience, from the non-profit world to the fashion industry. She is constantly seeking new opportunities to connect, share, and learn.

Natasha spent over two years as a Leadership Board Member and Online Community facilitator at GripTape, a non-profit organization that works to put youth in the driver’s seat of their own learning. At GripTape, Natasha represented the organization at a national level, attending conferences across the United States to get their message out. In addition, she developed engagement initiatives, such as launching the company’s Facebook page, and performed analytics for their online community, YouthSquad.

Currently, Natasha is a communications intern at Social Stylate, a creative marketing boutique — where she does everything from conducting interviews to creating online blog posts. Both of these experiences have helped her explore different aspects of the communications realm, and in turn, helped her solidify her career path decision.

In addition, through Handshake, Natasha was able to land a position at DSU Career Services as an ambassador, where she’s had the opportunity to assist with all social media efforts. Check out @dsucareerserv on Twitter!

If you have a Handshake account, you can login and find Natasha’s Handshake profile here, where she has provided rich detail about her academics and work experience. Her dream job upon graduation is to be a public relations consultant for a Fortune 500 company.

We at Handshake are so proud to have played a small role in the sure-to-be fruitful and exciting careers ahead of both Natasha and Khaadim. Handshake is also proud to partner with Delaware State University in our mission to help all students build meaningful careers.
